Yuuki figured out Bali way before I did!

Bali, follow in my footsteps!
Balinese Cooking Class
You would not believe how exhausting it is to grind spices in a stone mortar. The compound cook watched me struggle for a solid three minutes before stepping in with a polite smile and taking back the pestle. Yuuki had already spotted the pile of fresh turmeric and was quietly trying to steal a piece without getting caught. What I took away from the whole experience: the secret to a proper lawar is all about the order you add the spices, not the quantity. And cooking barefoot on a bamboo terrace with lemongrass in the air genuinely makes the final dish taste different.
Snorkelling in Amed
Amed throws you off at first: that volcanic sand is so black it looks like ink, unlike anything you have ever seen. Under the surface, though, everything explodes into colour. The coral at the Liberty Ship wreck is barely a twenty minute fin kick away, and the fish do not seem the least bit afraid of you. Yuuki sat on a volcanic rock watching my snorkelling gear with complete suspicion, not moving a centimetre the entire time I was in the water. I swear that cat was guarding my stuff. Maybe that is why I did not lose a single thing!
Surfing in Canggu
My instructor told me I was doing great. Yuuki, sitting on the sand right next to my board, clearly had a very different opinion judging by the look on his face every time I wiped out. Canggu in summer is alive, loud, and full of energy, and the waves at Batu Bolong are perfect for beginners without being totally overwhelming. What nobody warns you about: the hardest part is carrying the board down to the water. After that, falling off almost hurts less.
